It’s Beginning to Look
a Lot Like Christmas, or some other winter solstice celebration, so are you ready to get your cheer on? Prepare
to deck your halls, spin your dredels, and carol your way into the end of
another glorious year. Here at Randolph, we are certainly heading in that
direction, one merry melody at a time. We Randolphians
have a number of musical traditions.
Let’s start with the music department. Chamber Orchestra has
their recital on December 5th in Smith Hall at 7:30 p.m. The Department recital is on the 12th
in Wimberley Recital Hall at 2 p.m.
While all of these are well and good, the real show-stopping
tradition here is the Christmas Vespers, in the Chapel on the 7th at 7:30pm. It is a combined
effort showcasing the talents from Chorale and Chamber Orchestra, usually with
help from some local community members. This is a show you don’t want to miss.
For
those of you who find stuffy official department recitals boring, or will burst
into flames upon entering a chapel, Randolph
has not forgotten you. One fantastic
school tradition is to gather in Main Hall Lobby for the tree lighting, this
year on December
2nd.
You’d be surprised how many languages you can hear Jingle Bells and Silent Night in,
as well as watching the Etas and Gammas have another venue to go at each other
to the beat of whatever songs each respective club chooses.
It all ends with Songshine, one of the College's a capella ensembles,
leading everybody in one group carol to commence the lighting of the tree.
It’s that time of the year, for joy and cheer, and we can
hardly stand to wait…for the end of this semester to not be late. So come for a night out with the Randolph community and join the
language classes, clubs, and even the faculty in ending the semester on a high note (pun intended).
